Nowadays, Blu-rays and DVDs are being released with little to no special features. It’s a shame as these are a way to immerse the viewer into the world of the film. The newly released film "Looper" shows what a Blu-ray package should look like, chocked full of featurettes, deleted scenes, and commentaries.

In the future time travel has been discovered and outlawed, except by crime bosses. Using time travel, they have created Loopers, men who kill and dispose of people after they are sent back in time. Joe is one of the best, but his world is thrown into chaos when he is faced with having to dispose of his future self, who is looking to find a way to right things in the future.

"Looper" has one of the best Blu-ray packages of the year. It’s everything that you could hope for in a disc. The collection for this complex thriller explores all aspects of the film. The behind-the-scenes featurette includes interviews with most of the cast, which has become increasingly rare. Another featurette included here is "The Science of Time Travel," which goes into explaining time travel for the movie and theories about it in general. Whenever dealing with time travel, it can be a slippery slope for plot holes so it is good seeing the rules used for the film. One of the few low points on the disc is the multiple looks at how the score was created.

The deleted scenes are a nice inclusion. The scenes do add some clarification in parts, but what is most noticeable is how much these scenes add screen time to the supporting characters played by Piper Perabo, Paul Dano, and Noah Segan. There are over 20 scenes, all with audio commentary by writer/director Rian Johnson. He also contributes to the feature audio commentary with actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt, who shows up a little late to the show. There is an easy rapport between the actors with their director that makes this even more fun to watch.

"Looper" is a perfect example of a film package on Blu-ray. The film is interesting to watch, but the extras are what really sell this package.
